In a rapidly growing technical society, Sts. Leo-Seton Catholic School realizes the importance of students becoming proficient in the various forms of technology. The Technology Program at SLS is focused on helping students become competent users of technology. SLS currently meets the Louisiana State requirement of 4:1 students-to-computer ratio which is made possible through student technology fees paid with registration. Three computer labs, a library computer center, and computers in the classroom are all connected wirelessly through our local area network. Every classroom is equipped with Eno Interactive White Boards, mounted projectors, and Voice Amplification Systems. Filtered Internet service is available on all computers. With a four year replacement cycle in place, SLS will continue to provide current hardware and software for our students and teachers.

In 2006, focus shifted to improving technology in the classroom. With the help of a fundraiser, mounted TV/VCR/DVD units were placed in all classrooms. Teacher computers were connected to the TVs providing a multi-media learning environment for the students. Cable-in-the-Classroom was installed by Cox Communications which made way for our very own closed-circuit broadcasting station, KSLS.  Classroom amplification systems are used in every classroom for voice and volume clarity.

Parents are encouraged to monitor their student’s grades on Edline, an Internet site linked to our teacher’s gradebooks. Also available on Edline: our school calendar, class information, school news, sports information, and club information.

The Technology Curriculum at SLS prepares our students for high school with keyboard training and MS Office applications. Classroom teachers integrate technology into their lessons with software such as Kidspiration, Inspiration, Audacity, and Photostory. Starting in 3rd

grade, students are encouraged to tryout for a cast position in the KSLS news studio. This enrichment teaches students journalism, filming, and anchoring.

Our students’ lives revolve around technology (Game Boys/Xboxes/Palms). It is imperative that SLS keep up with their learning styles. The day of the chalkboard has passed. SLS has set short and long-term goals to acquire current instructional equipment including Promethean Interactive Boards.
